Can't get enough of the Y

A few weeks after the Young Women hiked to the Y, Jyson's Scout troop decided to hike to the Y. John got off work early and we all went.

Super Red 2010

As I'm writing this, I'm thinking about how my life can be measured by repeated events. Of course birthdays and holidays are annual events, but as I'm writing this post I'm reminded that a year ago I did this ride. My Memorial Day post has reference to last year's Memorial Day. Just got back from Girls Camp for the 2nd year and will be posting about that soon. Life just keeps moving along...
John, Jyson, and I drove up to Logan Friday afternoon. I picked up my registration packet in Lewiston and then we had dinner at Chili's. John & Jyson swam in the pool at the hotel while I relaxed in the room. It was kind of rainy, but the next morning dawned pretty clear with a few clouds. Unlike last year, I slept well and was pumped to ride.

The weather was perfect. They changed the course from last year so there was no big hill to climb, just some small ones - very doable. I talked to a few other riders but mostly I rode alone. I had friends riding the 30 mile and 100 mile distance but I never saw them. I did my first stop at 25 miles where John & Jyson were waiting for me.It was great to see them. After a port-a-potty stop, I was back on the road. Mile 35 was the lunch stop. The lines for the full lunch were long, so I just grabbed a half PB&J sandwich and a few grapes. After refilling my water bottles, I got back on the bike and rode til the end.

The total distance was 55 miles. It took me 3 hours 40 minutes. Last year I averaged 13 mph. This year my average was 15 mph. I felt good about that. In fact, I felt good at the end of the ride. Good for me!

Happy Father's Day to all the great dads in my life!

Today I want to pay tribute to some great dads I know:
my dad, John's dad, and John.This is my dad. He is a hard worker, very smart, solid in his testimony of the gospel, and a great example to me. I love my dad.
When I was in high school, I got to work at my dad's office during the summers. It was a 25 mile drive each way, which gave us some one-on-0ne time together that I'm not sure many other of my siblings got to have. We didn't necessarily talk the whole time, but I still got to have some quiet time with him as we listened to talk radio. I came to truly respect my dad and his dedication to our family. While he was not super physically affectionate with us kids, I knew he loved me. He worked hard to provide for our family. My mom has always said that one of the qualities she has appreciated about him is his total loyalty to her. He is a great example of living the gospel and serving others. Dad, thanks for humoring me when I tell you I'm your favorite daughter. I love you!

This is John's dad, doing what he does best - working! He taught all of his kids to work hard. He is always giving, giving, giving. I'm grateful for the way he welcomed me into the family with open arms. He's always concerned about how we're doing and I appreciate that!

This is my husband John. He is the best dad to his kids.He LOVES his kids and tells them regularly. While he hasn't been able to live with his kids for most of their lives, that hasn't stopped him from being there for them. He took them on vacations by himself. He's attended all of their events - sports, school, concerts, etc. John has faced a lot of challenges as a parent and I admire and respect him for that. He, like his father, is a hard worker and service oriented. He has a GREAT sense of humor! I hope someday his kids come to appreciate all of his sacrifices for them.Johnny, thanks for being such a great dad.
I love you more than words can say!

Memorial Day 2010

This year I made the Memorial Day trek by myself. John (as you may remember from last year) is in charge of the Lindon City Memorial Day program so we had to part ways this year.

I left Sunday morning and drove to McGill, Nevada to Doris & Lester's home for a lunch. The rest of the day was spent just hanging out with the extended family. Monday morning we drove to Lund, where my grandpa is buried.
I love the cemetery in Lund. It's in the middle of nowhere but well attended and decorated.Here are a few of the Oxborrow relatives. We're a fun bunch of people.

Good peeps in my life!

When I left my job as a principal, I wasn't sure what would happen. I accepted a job as an Instructional Coach. It has really been a dream job for me. I got my summers back. I have MUCH LESS stress. AND, I get to work with great people.

Wouldn't you want to work with these fun girls? Sadly, next year there will only be 7 of us from this group. My supervisor Michelle is going to be a principal and she'll do a great job. Three are going back to the classroom. Lastly, my dearest friend Natalie is going to stay home with her 2 cute boys. I will really miss her help, but luckily she's only a phone call away.
John & I had another great get-together with our friends Brandon & Debbie. It's crazy to think Deb & I were roommates over 15 years ago. She made me laugh then and she still cracks me up! I'm grateful we still get together.
I am grateful for good friends!

Hiking to the Y

We took the YW to hike to the Y. It was perfect weather.

When we got to the Y, Jyson was a little bummed to find out it was really bumpy rock. He was hoping to slide down it. We just climbed around on it instead.

Friends & Fun

May 14-15
A few weeks ago we went back to St. George.
It's becoming a monthly trip. :)

We got there Friday night. Saturday morning we went on a bike ride (37 miles) with our neighbor Steve. While he & Lynnette went shopping, John & I drove to Mesquite to visit G'ma O and Mom & Dad. It's always great to visit them!

We drove back to St. George to meet Steve & Lynnette for dinner and then off to the Tuacahn to see Brian Regan.
He is so dang funny!!! It was a fun weekend.
